Welcome to a blog site on all things related to football refereeing in South Africa and refereeing in general.

A short synopsis on my football officiating career:

  • Started officiating at local hostel league level (University of Stellenbosch, Western Cape) in mid 1980’s;
  • Officiated in local Stellenbosch Football League (Club level) from 1991 onwards;
  • Next level up was the various Provincial Leagues (WP Championship League,  WP Super League);
  • Promoted to the South African National 2nd Division in 1999;
  • Promoted to the South African National 1st Division (NFD) in 2001;
  • Promoted to the highest professional football division in South Africa, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 2003;
  • After 23 years with a whistle in the mouth, of which the last 12 seasons were in the PSL/NFD, I retired from national officiating in July 2012.

What stood out in your career, is the most asked question? Certainly the most bizarre was this freak of mother nature, captured on video in a live  Premier Soccer League match I officiated,  Orlando Pirates vs Black Leopards, Ellis Park Stadium, January 2007. …
